Wastewater Fuels is developing modular and scalable technology for on-grid and off-grid applications that produce clean energy and water from wastewater.
Around the world >80% of all wastewaters are discharged without treatment, due to lack of investment and/or energy costs. Our technology encourages the circular economy, by placing a value on wastewater (as a feedstock for fuel production).
We will treat wastewater using only the energy it contains and provide excess energy (hydrogen or electricity) for other uses, all whilst saving carbon. Our technology consumes the pollutants in the wastewater, and doesn't split water (electrolysis), ensuring precious water is not consumed for energy.
Our core system is designed to last 20 years with minimal to no maintenance and has no moving parts.
How does it work?
Rod assembly is immersed in wastewater holding tank
Friendly microbes colonise the outside of the rod
Organic matter consumed by microbes is converted into hydrogen ions
Hydrogen ions diffuse into the core of the rod
Within the core, the ions are converted into hydrogen gas
